Our Journey: 40 Years of Advancing Healthcare
Varichem Pharmaceuticals is established with a mission to provide locally manufactured, high-quality medicines to support Zimbabwe’s growing healthcare needs.
The company expands its portfolio to include a wide range of generic medicines, topical creams, and oral liquids, becoming a reliable supplier to local hospitals and pharmacies.
Varichem becomes the first local pharmaceutical company in Zimbabwe to produce antiretroviral drugs (ARVs). It launches Stalanev, the country’s first triple-combination ARV — a major breakthrough in HIV/AIDS treatment accessibility.
Varichem earns World Health Organization (WHO) prequalification for its ARVs — specifically Stalanev 30 and Varivar — making it the first indigenous pharmaceutical company in Southern Africa to meet global quality standards. This enables participation in international donor-funded programs.
The company begins exporting to neighboring countries including Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, and Mozambique, expanding its footprint in Southern Africa and supporting regional healthcare systems
Varichem invests in state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment and upgrades its Quality Control Laboratory to align with evolving GMP, ISO, and regulatory standards, reinforcing its reputation for excellence.
Despite global supply chain disruptions, Varichem maintains uninterrupted medicine production, supporting national health resilience and continuing to serve public sector and donor-funded procurement systems.
Today, Varichem offers over 140 registered medicines, operates a GMP-certified facility, and is recognized as one of Zimbabwe’s most trusted pharmaceutical manufacturers — with a legacy of innovation, integrity, and regional impact.
